QUARKS-2010: 16th International Seminar on High Energy Physics
(Kolomna, Russia, 6-12 June, 2010.)
The International Seminar "Quarks-2010" is organized by the Institute for Nuclear Research of the Russian Academy of Sciences from June 6 to June 12, 2010. "Quarks-2010" is the sixteenth in the series of seminars taking place every two years since 1980 in various historical and cultural places of Russia; the previous seminar, "Quarks-2008", was held near Sergiev Posad, about 70km northeast of Moscow.
The coming Seminar will take place near Kolomna, about 100km southeast of Moscow. Kolomna is an ancient city in Moscow Region, situated at the confluence of Moskva and Oka Rivers. It is an old town, mentioned in the annals in 1177, and until the 14th century it was the capital of Ryazan principality. It suffered greatly from the invasions of Mongolians in the 13th century, who destroyed it four times, but it always recovered and has never lost its commercial importance. Kolomna has several old churches of great archaeological interest, including two of the 14th century, one being the cathedral. Part of fortifications of the Kolomna Kremlin still survives. We plan to reserve time for the trips to Kolomna and Konstantinovo, where Sergei Alexandrovich Yesenin, one of the most beloved poets in Russia, was born. We are sure you will appreciate one of the most beautiful places in Russia.
Despite of the Seminar's traditional name, the program of "Quarks-2008" is fairly broad and includes plenary sessions, meetings at sections and informal discussions on various problems of quantum field theory and particle physics, including:
* quantum chromodynamics, strong interactions;
* physics beyond the Standard Model (colliders, rare processes, exotica);
* physics of neutrino, neutrino oscillations;
* cosmology and astrophysics as related to particle physics;
* modern field theory, dynamics of strongly coupled theories;
* superstring theory and phenomenology;
* ultra-high energy cosmic rays;
* selected experimental results;
We expect that about 150 physicists will participate in the Seminar.
